Brief synopsis:
Defeat a wiver-riding Mamool Ja paladin

ToAU BCNM numbah 3. They’re getting harder, but only by a little bit. This fight is in the Jade Sepulcher. If you haven’t caught on by now, the BCs are placed to make sure you got the staging points. Use the Mamool Ja Training Grounds staging point then head north across the area (with Sneak and Invis up) to the zone line.

You have to fight the Lancelord Gaheel Ja, a large wivre with a mamool on top. The mob takes up most of this small BC area so there isn’t too much room for comfort. Gaheel Ja is a PLD and will use the magic spells a PLD can use. He doesn’t seem to have Invincible, but his defense is high enough to be a hassle.

One of the problems with the Lancelord is that he will arbitrarily declare someone his next target, which is sort of a hate reset move on everyone. In say he will announce who he’s going to attack. Even a buffed weak mage shouldn’t be killed before a competent tank can get hate back, but this sort of thing does make tanking the Lancelord difficult.

Like normal wivres he will use Granite skin, not to be confused with some sort of stoneskin. This makes all attacks from the front quarter ineffective but doesn’t protect him from the sides or back. Melees seeing themselves do 0 damage should rotate around a bit. He does have an AoE if someone takes hate from behind though so be warned and try to stay on the sides of him.

At low life he will abandon all strategy and use Blazing Angon frequently. This fire-based attack does a few hundred points of AoE damage, which isn’t too threatening until you realize he’s just not going to stop using it. Blazing Angon is your sign to use whatever you need to end the battle quickly.

Lancelord Gaheel Ja Move List:
Move
Effect
Paladin magic
Flash, Holy, Cure IV
Can be silenced, but resists
(announce next victim)
Will attack the target that he announces, regardless of hate
Granite Skin
Nullifies all damage done from the front
Damage from the sides and back is still effective
Blazing Angon
AoE fire damage
200-300 damage
Used frequently at low health

Strategy tips:

Low-manning Puppet in Peril

We’re beyond the point where a single person can solo anything, but the relatively straightforward nature of this fight makes low-manning without six people a safe possibility. My lowest run on this fight was four people - two NINs, a WHM, and a BRD. The ninjas did all of the damage without problem even when he started using Granite Skin.
